Meet Us! Maggie Rogers and Tristan Roberson

Introducing a brand new series where members of the Ensemble talk to each other! And ask each other questions! About each other! Because we don’t already spend enough time with one another! But, by all means, we’re excited to share a bit more about us with you over the coming weeks. First up: Maggie Rogers, our Literary Manager and Resident Dramaturg, and Tristan Roberson, our Resident Lighting Designer and Technical Director.

Tristan asks Maggie:

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE ENSEMBLE?
A little over two years! I joined right after Revolt. She said. Revolt again.

WHY DO YOU STICK AROUND
WET allows me the space to grow as an artist and to better myself as a collaborator and friend. And we do plays that are challenging in all the right ways!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR IN 15?
Directing Everything You Touch. I am honored and #hyped to get cracking on this mammoth of a play. The main point of excitement comes from the killer cast we have assembled.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE CONTINUED DOING FOR 15 YEARS?
Every night I sleep with Blankie and have had him since the day I was born. I will be buried with Blankie.

WHAT WILL THE ENSEMBLE BE LIKE 15 YEARS FROM NOW?
Being a powerhouse of new work in the Pacific Northwest. We will have our own space. will still be kicking ass, and not taking ourselves too seriously.

FAVORITE ENSEMBLE MEMORY?
On my first summer retreat I was in charge of making dinner one night. I had been in the lake all day swimming and hanging out with everyone. As the sun rose in the sky, I went in to make dinner. While I stood in the kitchen with the windows open and the breeze coming in, I could hear everyone still down by the water laughing and having fun. It was a moment in which I knew that I had found my people at how hearing their laughing made me happy. (Well that got sappy)

FAVORITE THING ABOUT TRISTAN?
Boy howdy. I LOVE Tristan. My favorite THING about Tristan is his laugh when he really thinks something is genuinely funny. He is so professional and mature and I feel accomplished when I get an inappropriate laugh out of him.

Maggie asks Tristan:

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE ENSEMBLE?
This will be my 5th full season/going on 5 years. I joined WET in in our last season at the Little Theater on 19th Avenue East.

WHY DO YOU STICK AROUND?
The Ensemble offers me an outlet for creating, designing, and testing ideas while doing plays that other theatres can’t risk producing. I have said “here is a crazy idea” and actually followed through on it more times with WET than anywhere else I’ve designed.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR IN SEASON 15?
I’m incredibly excited about the addition of a 4th show this season! I love seeing this company grow and it is exciting to have reached a point where we are able to bring in outside productions that represent our brand of theatre.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE CONTINUED DOING FOR 15 YEARS?
I’ve been obsessed with Radiohead since I was a young fledgling of a teenager and will probably continue to be until the end of time. Others tell me that I’m also obsessed with Beyoncé, but I have literally no idea what they are talking about.

WHAT WILL THE ENSEMBLE BE LIKE 15 YEARS FROM NOW?
I see WET taking up permanent residency in a place that we can call our home. Having your own theatre space offers an unlimited amount of creativity and imagination in a way that can be very freeing compared to when you produce theatre in a shared environment.

FAVORITE ENSEMBLE MEMORY?
Catchphrase nights when the company is on retreat.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT MAGGIE?
Maggie is an absolute riot to work with and is an undercover comedian! She has a way of saying the one thing that will make you laugh, even if you are in your worst mood and walking around with a rain cloud over your head.
