WASHINGTON ENSEMBLE THEATRE PRESENTS
WELCOME TO SEASON 22
An Echo is the repetition of ideas across time and space, named for a nymph in Greek mythology, cursed to only ever repeat words spoken to her. As we battle hate and fascism today that is as horrifying as it is commonplace, we must ask ourselves what power we hold, what choice we have. These reverberations of old are loud – we must shout to be heard. And when we speak, our voices may shake, stumble, strain. Are we doomed to repeat ourselves? Or will we find the note together?
This epic season at WET spans the darkest depths of Hells Canyon, the playful area of Scrambling the Goose, the boundless imagination of our new works program WETworks, to a place at the table with our new reROLL RPG series. The one thing all these distinct pieces have in common is that they are all in conversation with the past— and centered here, in our own backyards. This season, we hope to hold a mirror up to the times we are living in, and respond with resounding resilience, hope, and even joy.
